This week in image of the week I’ve chosen a collection of photographs.

These are Liverpool’s famous Super Lamb Bananas, and there’s over 100 of them scattered around the city to celebrate Liverpool’s year as the Capital of Culture.

Here’s just a few of them, very photogenic though don’t you think!

Where do you think this was taken?

I couldn’t believe it myself when I came around the corner and saw this idyllic beach.

It was actually taken in North West Scotland on the road to Mallaig.

We’ve just been up there for a long weekend on my husbands motorbike, and enjoyed the most glorious weather I have ever had while visiting Scotland (and I have been a fair bit!).

It just looks like somewhere in the Mediterranean. I love Scotland, and when you see it like this there is just no better place to be.

I have always wanted to travel around Scotland on a motorbike because you just feel more of your surroundings than you do in a car.

And it didn’t disappoint, we had a fabulous weekend full of photo opportunities and fabulous weather!

The Tall Ships race started today from Liverpool as part of Liverpool’s celebrations for being the Capital of Culture 2008.

This photograph was taken on Saturday when we went over to Liverpool to visit the Tall Ships in Albert Dock.

The Tall Ships last visited Liverpool in 1984 and 1992, so it’s been 16 years since they were last here. Wow that makes me feel old!

So I was really pleased when I saw that they were coming this year, and made sure that I went to see the Parade of Sail that happened today.

It’s the first time I’d seen it, and it was an impressive sight seeing all the ships sailing down the River Mersey.

I went to my local park today and found that the old Art College had been on fire last night, so I went to have a look. The Fire Brigade were just finishing up and making sure all the fire was out. But the building has been gutted by the fire and the roof has caved in.

Although the building was derelict, it was a listed building and a very important one in the area so it’s a shame to see the building end in this way.

What can I say I’m not a great sweet fan but I do love all the colours in this one! The problem was keeping my son at bay while I took the shot!

I really like the different materials in this image. I think the steel, wood and glass really compliment each other, with each different texture giving a different feel. I also like the varying lines in the image, and their patterns bring more interest to the subject.

This is a perfect example of what I like about buildings and architecture, and also an excellent example of why I like them.

This week in image of the week:

I went to a wedding at Chester Cathedral on Saturday, the wedding was lovely. While waiting outside for the photographs to be taken I spotted this little guy being protected by the photographers assistant. He’s got to be one of the most important guests at a wedding, hasn’t he!

And this photographer had not one but two Canon EOS 1D’s, very nice. I just noticed him through the trees and guests and thought he deserved some recognition, in the form of a photograph. I couldn’t really get much closer without looking like I wanted to kidnap him, so I had to use the digital zoom which is never really very good, and pick my way round the obstacles. So it’s not one of my best.

But I was more taking the photograph for the sentiment rather than anything else, and that’s why it made image of the week, and not on it’s technical merit! Image of the week can be more than just the best looking or best taken photograph…

\'Central Park signpost\'

This is a shot I took today, I like the amount of different colours in such a small area. I enjoy finding these shots of everyday life, because to capture them I have to look around at my surroundings more than I normally would. It’s amazing what you can find when you look!

This week in image of the week:

Donkey

Close encounter of the donkey kind! His name is Jacko and he resides at the Tam O’ Shanter Urban Farm in Birkenhead. I think he was looking for some treats but was out of look, he doesn’t look too impressed does he!

As with children, animals can be difficult to take shots of. I think the key is to be quick. I wiped my camera out and took the shot with one hand, while trying to stop the kids putting their hands (should I say tasty looking hands, to the donkey anyway) through the fence with the other hand.

A great place to visit though.

This week in image of the week:

stone pillar

This is part of the facade of the Williamson Art Gallery in Birkenhead. I think stone is an amazing material to work with and sculpt, it’s really versatile. And this photo shows how versatile it can be with the scrolls of the pillar, sitting nicely next to the lines of the letters and architrave.

At the moment the gallery’s holding the Wirral Spring Art & Photography Exhibition which is held there yearly. I only heard about it this year so I went along to take a look (mostly at the photography, no surprise there!) and there were some excellent photographs on display. It really got me motivated to go out and get shooting!
