Where do you think this was taken?
I couldn’t believe it myself when I came around the corner and saw this idyllic beach.
It was actually taken in North West Scotland on the road to Mallaig.
We’ve just been up there for a long weekend on my husbands motorbike, and enjoyed the most glorious weather I have ever had while visiting Scotland (and I have been a fair bit!).
It just looks like somewhere in the Mediterranean. I love Scotland, and when you see it like this there is just no better place to be.
I have always wanted to travel around Scotland on a motorbike because you just feel more of your surroundings than you do in a car.
And it didn’t disappoint, we had a fabulous weekend full of photo opportunities and fabulous weather!

Getting more out of Flickr
July 22, 2008
How I’m getting more out of Flickr
I have a free account with Flickr at the moment. And I am finding more and more ways that Flickr can help my photography skills and my communication and networking with others.
I have found that Flickr groups are great for this, and makes Flickr a truly interactive photo sharing site. It was just a case of choosing a group or groups that I wanted to join and then I could join in with the discussions and submit photos or do the challenges. Finding other photographers and commenting on their photographs has givien me inspiration and taught me a lot.
Free account or Pro
What I have now realised is that a free account while free, and giving immediate access to the Flickr network does have it’s limitations. Like a 200 photo upload limit that can be viewed and a limit of 3 sets per account. This wasn’t something I had thought about when I opened the account as I was going to be using it for my Project 365 so I didn’t over load my blog (this one). But now I want to share more than just my Project 365.
I was starting to wonder why there was a lot of pro accounts around and now I know why. With a pro accont there is unlimited uploads and sets and stats etc…
I don’t want to sell the pro account here, but I am going to upgrade my account because Flickr has become a more important tool for me than I expected it to be. So I want to continue to use it to it’s full potential and not be restricted. Of course there is a fee for this of $24.95 for a 1 year account (not too bad).

Image of the Week #30

The Tall Ships race started today from Liverpool as part of Liverpool’s celebrations for being the Capital of Culture 2008.
This photograph was taken on Saturday when we went over to Liverpool to visit the Tall Ships in Albert Dock.
The Tall Ships last visited Liverpool in 1984 and 1992, so it’s been 16 years since they were last here. Wow that makes me feel old!
So I was really pleased when I saw that they were coming this year, and made sure that I went to see the Parade of Sail that happened today.
It’s the first time I’d seen it, and it was an impressive sight seeing all the ships sailing down the River Mersey.

Welcome To The New Look TPB
July 21, 2008
Welcome to the new look for The Photographer Blog, it’s a completely new design for the blog making it more of a ’site’ than just a blog on it’s own. Which will give me the opportunity to display more content easier, and allow me to add some new features as well.
It’s taken a while to choose the design and decide on how things were going to look, but I am very pleased with the result. There are still some tweaks to be made but I wanted to get it back online as soon as possible. Some of the new features to check out are:
A separate home page and blog page
There is now a Home Page where you will find some of the new features like the featured video. The TPB blog can now be found on the Blog Page. These can be easily found in the navigation at the top of the site.
A featured video on the home page
The home page now has a featured video about Digital Photography from You Tube, which will change on a regular basis.
The latest from my Flickr account on the home page
I now have a feed across the middle of the home page showing the latest images in my Flickr account.
RSS subscription still available from every page
If you would like to stay up-to-date with what is happening on The Photographer Blog then you can do that by subscribing to my RSS Feed. Either by choosing an option from the eNews and Updates on the top of the sidebar on the blog page, or by the white icons at the very top right of any page, or last but not least there’s also a subscribe page just in case you wanted another option!
I will be adding a newsletter and hopefully a gallery soon, so as the new features are added I will post an update about them.
But for now I hope you enjoy the site as much as I have building it, please feel free to have a look around and let me know what you think (or let me know what doesn’t work!).

Finding a Good Photography Project
July 11, 2008
There are loads of good photography projects around. There are a couple of regular ones on blogs that I follow that I like to take part in, like at Neil Creek’s blog. But he hasn’t got one on this month so I’m looking for something new to try.
I also take part in some Flickr group projects that I’ve joined recently which are normally weekly, and then there’s always my Project 365, so doing something else as well could be too much.
But I’ve just come across a new site called Photo Challenge which runs monthly projects (every other month). In July the project is Lighting Fixtures, shooting one daily throughout the month and submitting it to the group. I love lights and lighting so this one definitely appealed to me, and although I found it a little late I’m going to give it go.
