How to Create a Photo Book Part 4

So I completed the project of making a photobook in a month – SoFoBoMo 09 and I enjoyed it that much that I am looking forward to participating in SoFoBoMo 10.

I used Adobe Indesign for creating the photobook last year, but this year I want to do it a little differently and use an online service with software to do it. I’ve decided this for 2 reasons

  1. Not everyone has access to expensive editing software, and if you don’t then what are the options for you?
  2. Blurb, Lulu, Snapfish, AdoramaPix etc.. are free services to use, and also gives you the opportunity to have the photobook printed, for you or sold to either family and friends or to anyone!

I’m planning on making another Photobook this year, although this time the subject is going to be the trip I took to the D-Day Beaches in  Normandy, France last July. Look out for more about this soon.

If you’re going to put the effort in to make a photobook then you want to share it, don’t you? I want to here about your photobooks! Please feel free to leave a link to them in the comments, and I’ll put them into a post to share with everybody…

Hi, I just stumbled across your website looking for peoples’ experiences with Blurb.com. I just made my version 2 book of pictures I took in Matsushima in Japan, and I went with Blurb because V1 of the book came out well. I notice you didn’t use the Blurb software, I was wondering how it compared to using the Adobe tools (which I can’t afford right now). Anyway, I’m going to poke around your blog some more, and if you don’t mind looking at horrible pictures :-) my blurb.com book is here:

It’s also bilingual, or at least my poor attempt at it!

Congratulations on the book it looks great, especially the telephone box – very unusual.

Adobe tools are great and can give you ultimate creativity and flexibility, but after using them on my first ebook I’m not going to use them on my second. Because I think sites like Blurb offer a fantastic service and can do all the hard work for you. I’ll be testing this theory out soon when I make my second book, but this time I’ll be able to offer it as a printed book through Blurb and that’s something that Adobe can’t offer…

I suppose it falls into two categories if you want to easily publish a book that can sit on a shelf then a service like Blurb is fantastic, but if you want to make a down-loadable ebook for your blog or website then tools like Adobe’s are better.
