So here we are again the end of 2010 and another year over…
While waiting for the New Year to roll in I was feeling that yearly urge to take a look back at what has happened in 2010 – to me anyway! Either I’m starting to sound like my parents or age is catching up with me, because the years just seem to be flying by at the moment (oh I can’t believe I just said that). And that seems to make photographs and taking them even more important – to capture the year so I can look back and remember it!
You know how us English are obsessed with the weather, well I think the first thing to hit me about this year is the weather, snow in January, November and December is unheard of in my memory. And I can only remember one other year when there was snow on the ground on Christmas Day. But if you can ignore all the chaos and disruption that it causes, snow does in my view create some truly spectacular images and transforms the world around us.
As for everything in between, I moved house. Apart from being incredibly stressful and taking up a lot of my time, I still got to use my camera just not in the usual way! Photography is fantastic as an art, but also extremely useful as a tool – photographs of our house for the sale listing, photographs of items to sell on ebay that we didn’t need anymore, photographs of a garden wall that needed knocking down (so we could remember how it went back together!) photographs of our old house for the memories, photographs of our new house for new memories, the list goes on…
Although I missed not having enough time to enjoy the ‘art of photography’ as much as I wanted to this year, I appreciated using my skill and practising it in a different way. As for next year and New Year resolutions – I’m not making any for once, I don’t want to be disappointed if I don’t manage too keep them, I just want to see what next year brings as it unfolds. So here’s to a New Year and the new challenges that I’m sure it will bring. And I hope we all have a happy and prosperous one!
Happy New Year
